Castlecrag shining a light on energy efficiency

Apr 07, 2021

A switch to LED lighting has helped Castlecrag Private Hospital slash its energy consumption by more than a half.

Castlecrag Private Hospital has replaced old incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and halogen down lights with 351 energy efficient LED lights.

The changeover has had a massive impact on the hospital’s annual power usage for lighting - dropping from 105,941 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year to just 43,994 kilowatt hours per year.

Chief Executive Officer Richard Ryan said it was a great example of the hospital’s commitment to sustainability.

“The switch to LED lighting helps to reduce our carbon footprint while improving the longevity of our lighting. The LEDs can be used for 50,000 hours before needing to be replaced, compared to 10,000 hours for the old fluorescent tubes so it really is a win-win for Castlecrag Private Hospital,” Mr Ryan said.
